7s Referee selected as Match Officials for Gibraltar 7s 2023
Once again Gibraltar 7s will welcome the excellent team from 7s Referee to be out Match Officials for the 2023 Tournament.
7s Referee joined us for the first time in 2022 with Officials from 5 European Countries covering all of the competitions as well as providing a former International Referee plus English Premiership & Championship Assistants to our Friday night game.
Not only are their Officials, highly skilled and experienced referees from around the World, they are specialists in the game of 7s with a different focus and priorities. 7s Referee provides us with the officials that are appropriate for the teams and competition they are working on and with their own academy, they train and develop referees in this fast paced game including our own GRFU referees.
Tournament Founder and Director, Chad Thomson said “the Gibraltar7s tournamnet focus is on being the leading, high-level invitational 7s tournament globally. The event is housed at the unique £25mio facility at Europa Point, Gibraltar, overlooking the continents of Europe and Africa. It is essential therefore that all aspects of the Tournament aspire to be best in class and that applies especially to the team of officials. This is why we have elected to work with Mike Mulroy and his team of Match Officials at ‘7s Referee’ ensuring the best experience for competitors and enjoyment for spectators”.
Director of Match Officials, Mike Mulroy said “Gibraltar is such an amazing place to hold a sevens event and the 2023 tournament will be even bigger and better with more teams, more rugby and of course more of our refereeing team. Every referee is assessed on their performance on every game and given feedback in exactly the same way as a coach does for their team. Selection is based on performance and we will again be bringing World Rugby referee coaches and assessors to Gibraltar to maintain the highest possible standards.”
